Art Classes

"Imagination is the beginning of creation". This is what I believe in.
Drawing and painting has always been my area of interest. Though the computer screen and books may contain wonderful illustrations, there can be nothing like a teachers guidance to foster that curiosity in children.

Since I had won awards at the national level earlier, keeping this view in mind,I started my Art classes every Sunday from 10 am -12:30 am at my residence for children of all age groups covering host of interesting topics like basic drawings, pencil sketches, oil pastels, water colours, collage and pen and ink to build a strong foundation in Art. And of course competitions are the best way to judge yourself. So, we wouldn't miss out on any of them happening in and around us!!!

Plz reply to this post if anyone is interested in the same and I shall get back to you asap...Thanks

This is my own variation of dry fry chicken starter with oyster sauce. A fusion variety, it's one of the favourite of all my family members and friends. Quite easy and a quick recipe which can be cooked even when your guests have already arrived.

The ingredients are:-

Boneless Chicken- 250 gms
Bell Pepper- 2
Onions- 2
Oyster Sauce- 2tbsp
Soy Sauce- 1tbsp
Salt to taste
MSG-1tsp
Garlic and ginger chopped coarsely-1tbsp
Eggs-2
Cornflour-2tbsp

Method:-

Heat enough oil in a wok.Prepare a batter with cornflour, eggs, salt and a little water. Dip the boneless chicken pieces in the batter and deep fry.Drain and keep aside in an absorbent towel.

In the same wok after removing excess oil, add the chopped ginger-garlic and stir fry.Now add the sliced onion and bell pepper and stir fry for a minute.Notice that they don't become too soft.Add the deep fried chicken pieces and add the MSG, oyster sauce, soy sauce, a dash of sugar and salt and a little cornflour mixed with water.

Relish chicken in oyster sauce either as a starter or as a side dish with fried rice.

Finishing Schools

Have you always dreamt about boosting your self image or making your presence felt when in a social gathering? If yes, a finishing school is the place for you to be. A school of etiquette and manners that teaches social grace and prepares one for the real world.

Such schools give people the tools that bring about self confidence, self esteem, respect for themselves and those around them thereby enriching the relationships with all those who touch their lives and creating an everlasting impression.

The history of etiquette can be traced back to the days of the French royal courts during 1600-1700's as a result of the nobles who did not work at the court,so they developed elaborate social customs to get rid of boredom. From the early 15oo to 19oo's children learnt etiquette's at school and since 1960's etiquette's have much more relaxed based on treating everyone with same degree of kindness and consideration.

Such mannerism and etiquette's are a lifetime investment and by attending such a school a child will not only learn how to hold the fork or chopsticks properly but also contribute to building character, communication skills, poise, social grace and how to handle any situation with confidence and intelligence.

Generally the courses in such schools include proper introductions,importance of maintaining eye contact,communication skills,dining skills,table manners,how to be a sport,maintain the right posture,start and keep a conversation going,telephone skills,steps to independence,social speech,travel etiquette,theatre etiquette,money management,time management,health and fitness,etc.

You may have realised that despite being academically ahead one many be languishing behind because of personal image, self confidence and effective communication skills. Here is when a finishing school plays its vital part.

So if you want to be well groomed, carry yourself with poise and grace and gain that extra edge to break into the real world, enroll yourself in a finishing school and bring in a change in your attitude and to those around you.

Here is the last of the series of my emergency situation handling posts adapted from a workshop my husband underwent in his organisation from a professional group. I am sure they will prove to be valuable to you someday and help rescue someone whose life is in danger.

Poisons are substances that can cause injury to the body and can also prove to be fatal at times. Hence,it is necessary that every layman should be aware of its consequences and treatments during an emergency.

Generally,if poison is consumed, the symptoms that one should look for are abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, diarrhoea, burns, odours or stains in mouth, drowsiness or unconsciousness and poison containers nearby.

We should also be aware of the type of poison consumed. If any kind of corrosive material was consumed ,then the lips and tongue will be burnt immediately. In such a case, dilute with water or milk.
Forcefully vomit as 50% of the poison must be removed from the stomach within 30 mins. However, remember not to induce vomiting during seizures, drowsy, petroleum products, strychnine and rat poison.

Checking airway, breathing, consciousness is a must. The patient must be kept on the left side as this side delays stomach emptying into the small intestine. As more poison absorption takes place after it passes into the small intestine from the stomach. Activated charcoal blended with water can be given under instructions.

In case of severe bleeding, the first step one should take is to remove any clothing from the injured area and expose the wound. Then cover the wound with a clean cloth and apply direct pressure over the wound with your fingers or palm and make sure the injured area is raised above the level of the casualty's heart.

Apply a firm bandage over the sterile cloth and another pad if blood seeps through it.Remember to keep checking the circulation.Loosen it if necessary.Monitor the casualty's breathing, pulse and level of response and report to the doctor all details when you dial an ambulance.

Treating fractured collar bone

This is yet another continuation of one of my earlier posts related to a workshop on safety measures. This time I am going to discuss about treating a fractured collar bone. The collar bone (or clavicle) is the bone that runs along the front of the shoulder to the breast bone (sternum). Such fractures generally happen as a result of falling badly onto your shoulder or with stretched arms and is a common injury amongst sports personalities.

The treatments for fractures vary with different positions in the body.In case of fracture of the collar bone, enable the casualty to sit down and place the arm on her injured side across her chest and support the arm in an elevated sling. Secure the arm to her chest with a broad fold bandage over the sling and take the casualty to the hospital in a sitting case.

While treating a fractured upper arm,sit the casualty down, gently place the injured arm across her chest in the position that's comfortable and ask her to support her arm and support the arm in an arm sling and secure the limb to her chest.Placing a soft padding between the arm and chest and tying a broad fold bandage around the chest over the sling can be comfortable. The casualty should be transported to the hospital in a sitting position.
