This is yet another continuation of one of my earlier posts related to a workshop on safety measures. This time I am going to discuss about treating a fractured collar bone. The collar bone (or clavicle) is the bone that runs along the front of the shoulder to the breast bone (sternum). Such fractures generally happen as a result of falling badly onto your shoulder or with stretched arms and is a common injury amongst sports personalities.
The treatments for fractures vary with different positions in the body.In case of fracture of the collar bone, enable the casualty to sit down and place the arm on her injured side across her chest and support the arm in an elevated sling. Secure the arm to her chest with a broad fold bandage over the sling and take the casualty to the hospital in a sitting case.
While treating a fractured upper arm,sit the casualty down, gently place the injured arm across her chest in the position that's comfortable and ask her to support her arm and support the arm in an arm sling and secure the limb to her chest.Placing a soft padding between the arm and chest and tying a broad fold bandage around the chest over the sling can be comfortable. The casualty should be transported to the hospital in a sitting position.
